Letters to Ellie

When I started off this deployment I was determined to write my daughter a letter every day that I was gone.  She’s only 2 years old, so I know that she can’t read the letters now, but I wanted her to have something so that when she is older she’ll know what happened.  Often times children develop issues (i.e. abandonment issues, anger, etc.) because of events that happened during their childhood.  They usually can’t remember the traumatic event and therefore are left unable to address the feelings that resulted from the experience.  These letters will only capture my side of the event, but maybe it will help her if she ever needs them.

From the start I wasn’t sure if I would have time to write a letter every day, but I knew that I was willing to try.  As time passed, I learned that the letters helped me to express how I felt, but they also made me cry.

I won’t post all of the letters here, but you can find some of them below.
